Re: Crash to Desktop!!

Well....for starters your Vid Card isnt supported by the game....2. you dont have enough RAM... well you do but considering you dont have a supported vid card....not having atleast a gig of ram is just icing on the cake. You should try reading system req's before you buy bro.

Battlefield 2 has the following minimum requirements. If your computer does not meet these requirements, the game will not run properly if at all.

Windows XP (32 bit version) with Administrator rights.
1.7 GHz or faster processor.
512 MB or more RAM.
Supported 128 MB video card with the newest manufacturer drivers.
CD Version, 8x or faster CD/DVD drive.
DVD version, 8x or faster DVD drive.
2.3 GB free hard disk space plus space for the Windows swap file and save data.
If you would like to take advantage of the higher detail video settings Battlefield 2 offers, we recommend the following specifications.

2.4 GHz or faster processor.
1 GB or more RAM.
Supported 256 MB video card with the newest manufacturer drivers.
Supported Processors:

Intel Pentium 4, Xeon, Extreme Edition, Celeron D.
AMD Athlon XP, Athlon 64, Athlon 64-FX, Sempron.
Supported Video Cards:

ATI Radeon

X700 (PCIe), X600 (PCIe), X800 XT Platinum Edition, X800 PRO, X300 series.
9800 series, 9700 series, 9600 series, 9559 (RV350LX), 9500 series, 8500 series.
NVIDIA GeForce

6600 (PCIe), PCX 5900 (PCIe).
5800 series (AGP).
6800 Ultra, 6800 GT, 6800.
FX 5950 series, FX 5900 series, FX 5700 series.

Re: Crash to Desktop!!

Well although i agree with the above, i may be able to shed some more light on this....

I have more than met the system specs:

3.2 processor,
200 gig free space
2gig ram
radeon 9550 256mb card

yet my pc does the same thing, it crashes to desktop and for some weird reason it sometimes changes the colours of the screen on my desktop as well.

The only thing from your above list that i dont follow, is the bit where you say the XP you are running must have admin authorisation.

I am NOT using the admin account, so maybe that is my problem, but i very much doubt it.

I have an ATI 9600XT and I can run the game smoothly on medium settings with anti-aliasing off. If I turn it on, the display gets jumpy and I crash to the desktop more often. Just some info in case you have your AA on.

Re: Crash to Desktop!!

When my buddy and I get in to play against AI, we'll finish a map and when I go to load another one, I usually crash right to the desktop. Very annoying so I know about crashes.

Re: Crash to Desktop!!

Just to share my own experiences with you guys....I had a problem with crashing to desktop when I would access the commander screen in single player. When I would access the screen in single player and then try to exit it I would either lock up or crash completely. I contacted EA about the problem and came to find out that I had a bad copy of the Nvidia drivers. The EA Tech said that its very common for people to have corupt copies of the drivers. May wana look into that if you are having some of the same probs.

I have a 3 gig p4, 512 mb ram, 9600xt, 50gb free hd, 480 watt PS, I have the same problem. I think the solution might be to update drivers for the motherboard and videocard, but i havent tried yet.

Re: Crash to Desktop!!

Nice forum btw ;)

ive had the odd crash to desktop but it sounds nothing like you guys have had, my main issues have been with stutters and freezes... however if you have the patience to leave ur PC in the middle of a stutter/freeze it usually recovers with about 15 - 20 secs ive found.

My specs...

AMD Athlon "Barton" XP2800+ 333FSB
Asus A7N8X-X nForce2 Mobo
768Mb 400Mhz PC3200 Ram
ATI Radeon 9800XT 256mb

A reasonable rig but nothing too fancy, i run BF2 at Mid settings with AA on 2. With Fraps i get reasonable frames mostly around 45+... the occasional dip to 25+.

Most interestingly im running old drivers as ive had no need to update them 'yet'
Radeon Catalyst 4.7.exe

1 more thing... weve got a machine in work that can run BF2 on low admittedly but it has a MX 5200 card. Apparently thats not supported but it works.... just.
Mrp ;)

Re: Crash to Desktop!!

Hey guys, new to the forum. Ahead of time sorry for the long post. Just felt the need to post on this. As anyone can see when you google bf2 ctd's you'll find tons of people having the same issues. We run a 4 pc setup on wlan and not one of these totally different configured computers (and one laptop) will run this game to its fullest and stable at that.

1 machine is running a 2900 barton core, 1.5GB PC3200, with a 9600 pro which freezes and ctd often. Others experience good play for a couple hours, and then drop out for no reason, (which are well above system req's). Meanwhile getting my computer to run it has been pure hell. I love the game just wish I could find the answer.

For those that may question my system specs they are as followed.

AMD X2 4400+ (2x 2.2ghz)
2GB OC Kingston DDR2
160GB SATA
2x EN7800gtx (SLi) video cards
and currently running onboard hi-def 7.1 sound off an Asus A8N-SLi Deluxe.

I have updated drivers plenty of times, directx, tweaked the cards, dropped clocks, anything I could possibly think of and nothin I have thought of has got this game to act right. If I run the game in defualt settings I can sometimes squeeze an hour or 2 of gameplay out.

I do see some goofy errors and if any of you don't know to get an error display simply right click the icon your using to start the game and in the target line find the fullscreen + 1 and change the 1 to a 0 to start in window mode. This should allow you to see the error box pop up. If anyone can shed some light on this for me by all means...and sorry for the long post. Game on!

Are all your settings set to Medium, or just some settings, because I have the same card, AGP of course. Of course AA is turned off too.

When I first installed it I tried to run BF2 on medium, and crashed, and ever since I re-installed it, I've been running everything on Low.

I'll try what you did next chance I get. Thanks!

Re: Crash to Desktop!!

Wazzup fellas, it thought that only the Ati's card have the problem of desktop crash, but a friend of mine have a Nvidia and one day start to change the resolutions and surprise =) lets go to the desktop... lol, but after a lot of tears he found the solution... 70hz on any resolution.
He told me about the experience and immediately do the stuff, well now hours and hours without problems with full details at 1024*768 antialiasing, etc, etc...
At the beggining i read eveything about the problem and try all kind of stuff, but nothing... and to prove the solution, i restored all the changes, make a new full instalation and choose the resolution with 70hz and it works. I'm happy now and i hope that you can play without problems after try this simple action, like i'm doing it right now. See ya, good luck...

RE: Crash to Desktop!!

I have the same problem, but really something to think about...

My system:
- Windows Vista 64-bit
- Intel Pentium Dual Core 6400 (2 x 2.18Ghz)
- 4Gb Corsair DDR2 RAM 800Mhz Extra low latency
- XFX Geforce 8800GTX 768Mb
- Neo P965 mainboard
So the systemrequirements are certainly met!
Every setting in the game is the highest possible.

When I play, no problem. But when it loads a new round (doesn't matter which map), it often crashes to desktop. I can immediatly restart the game, but I wonder why it crashes so often on loading a new map...??

Who can help me with this??

RE: Crash to Desktop!!

What type of video card are you getting? That is a biggie. And 2 gigs of ram would be better but 1 is enough if you have a decent vid card. You might not be able to have all the settings cranked though.

RE: Crash to Desktop!!

I would say yes, but you may have to tinker with some of the video settings to keep your game smooth. And there is a program called Enditall, or something like that, that can shut down some of your background processes of your computer while you're playing. That can help.

RE: Crash to Desktop!!

i had the same problem, crashing to desktop randomly but after a lot of searching in the internet i finally succeeded in finding a solution for it so here is a solution for those who randomly crash to desktop, this problem occurs when you use cracks or bad mini images, to fix this problem use this mini image for battlefield 2 and mount it with daemon tools or else, here is the download link for fixed mini image:
http://rapidshare.com/files/56592701...ge__3.zip.html

here is the link for torrent file of the fixed mini image:
http://zerotracker.com/download/76272/BF2DVD.torrent

since i used this mini image i had no further problems and never crashed to desktop again, hope this works for you too
NOTICE: before using this mini image make sure you are using the original BF2.exe and Core.dll files i suggest you to install a fresh copy of bf2.
Enjoy the game

RE: Crash to Desktop!!

This is what I have, and am having problems.

System Info:

Gateway GT5040 - Intel Pentium 4 2.8 Dual Core
3.0 Gig DDR2 ram (2 - 1 gig chips, 2 - 512 mb chips, all 533mhz)
Nvidia Geforce 8500GT 512 DDR2 (driver vers: 169.21)
Sound Blaster Audigy 2 Value
C drive, 250 GiG, 100 gig Windows XP Pro 55 GiG free
D drive, Windows Vista Ultimate
E drive 250 GiG Games
3 DVD roms, readers and writers, 1 dual sided
Power Supply 475 watt
Directx 9
Monitor Acer AL1913 (drivers installed)

System running Win XP Pro
The problem I'm haveing is:
1st: "input not supported" (has been resolved)
2nd: now the game crashes on startup, displays logo screen, goes black as if loading rest, drops me to windows, no error or sound, just to windows.

BF2 worked fine on this machine when it had 1 gig ram, and Nvidia Geforce 7300GS 256 DDR2 vid card.(with some settings turned down)

Can play bf1942,hellgate london,farcry,doom3, etc, but not bf2?

Any help would be appreciated.
